Interns’ Corner #1

This past summer I interned at Makauwahi Cave Reserve through Northern Arizona University as part of a Fieldwork Experience requirement for my BS degree in Environmental Studies. Over the course of the internship I helped out with different things going on around the site.

I was responsible for coordinating educational programs and conducting studies of visitor use patterns and opinions. I also assisted with the tortoise experiment taking place this summer. As part of the summer County Parks & Rec program, every Wednesday a group of 60-100 kids from all over the island would come for a tour of the site. It was my job to organize and direct their activities, such as cave and tortoise tours as well as planting coconuts along the beach. I had a blast with the kids and working with the MCR Ohana!

I also created a video about all the fun stuff that happened down at MCR this summer! You can watch it here on youtube.
