The Cave’s on TV Again!

October 19, 2014

Philippe Cousteau, host of Discovery Channel show, with Grove Farm Vice President Marissa Sandblom.

Once again, the cave has been getting lots of attention on TV. Recently it’s been the Discovery Channel Canada’s “Daily Planet” show. See it on the Discovery Channel Website. Even more recently, but not yet released, is a piece on the cave for a new nationally syndicated educational travel series called “Awesome Planet” hosted by Philippe Cousteau, grandson of scuba pioneer Jacques Cousteau. For this one, we invited Grove Farm Vice President Marissa Sandblom to introduce the site – and she did great! Keep watching the Makauwahi Cave Facebook page for the link when that comes out.

Past TV coverage of the cave and related research has been featured on NOVA, National Geographic, and public television stations from Hawaii to Europe. It has also been used as a location for non-documentary full-length movies, from a dramatization of the Rapa Nui story some years ago on the National Geographic channel, to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean IV: On Stranger Tides. As many of you have heard on our tours, Johnny Depp, or rather his stunt double, even dived into the sinkhole, landing in a “virtual river” flowing through the cave. It’s all fakery!
